A Closer Look at Small Business Saturday

More than 50 percent of the working population, approximately 120 million individuals, work in small business. So, it’s no surprise that small businesses have created more than 65 percent of our net new jobs over the past two decades. It’s only right that these small businesses get a day to call their own – they’ve worked tirelessly to support their communities, so let’s support them right back. This Saturday, November 29th, join us in celebrating small businesses across the country by backing local mom and pop shops near you on Small Business Saturday.

To help show our ever growing appreciation, we pulled aside some of our very own clients to share what being a small business means to them.

“Being a small business is a blessing. Every day we open the shop early, get ready for the day and never know what will come in our doors. That feeling is what keeps everyone on their toes. Our customers mean everything to us,” says Yev Faktorovich, of Yev’s Jewelry & Loan in West Hollywood, CA.

Yev’s Jewelry & Loan has been in the pawn shop industry for more than 25 years, proudly providing Orange County with a trustworthy partner when it comes to buying, loaning or selling valuable and luxury items. “Some of the best memories we can share are helping a client get back on her feet, then seeing her come back years later to buy from us – no longer needing to pawn her items. It’s also always exciting to be able to buy a collection of jewelry that was made over 150 years ago,” Faktorovich adds.
However, this pawn shop has much more to offer than just jewelry. More of their specialty items include luxury watches, antiques and other valuables that many pawn shops don’t accept, such as art and entertainment memorabilia, like movie props. But, it doesn’t stop there. This small business is in it for the long haul, and has some wise words to offer other small businesses out there: “My advice to any small business owner is to make sure you never forget where you came from, and stay hungry. Make sure you know your competition, and perfect what sets you apart,” Faktorovich concludes.
