Are you inadvertently killing your local SEO?

Is your company's local search marketing struggling? If you think you're implementing effective SEO practices but your business isn't showing up in any search results, your techniques may be detrimental to your web presence. It's time to change those practices to boost your local presence, get customers through the door and increase sales.

While taking shortcuts may be possible in some aspects of business, it's certainly no longer possible in your SEO strategies. Staying on top of local SEO trends is important - the more you know, the better you can optimize your website for increased local traffic.

Stop using the wrong tactics
To increase your search rankings, you need to implement the best local SEO practices, not just any old SEO techniques. What worked in the past doesn't always work anymore, and it's time to quit the bad habits that are hurting your search results.

One of the first steps you need to take is to stop buying links. While this strategy may have worked before, search engines are constantly changing how they rank websites, and link purchasing is something that's now being targeted as undesirable. The more link purchasing your business takes part in, the more you risk not showing up in local search results.

Are you filling your pages with relevant keywords? This may seem like a great idea to increase your rankings, but it can backfire. Even though keyword-rich content is key, keep in mind that this content needs to be fresh, original and interesting to increase your rankings. The posts also need to be scheduled regularly - don't hope that updating your company blog once a month will drastically improve your SEO efforts. To boost this strategy and make it effective for local searches, it doesn't hurt to mention your business location throughout your content, as long as you're working it in naturally. Are there any local events or groups you can get involved with and mention in a blog post? If so, it may help to increase your local presence and build your reputation as a community business leader.

While your website needs to be eye-catching and appealing to viewers, it should also be search engine friendly. Keep graphics to a minimum if they include keywords, because those keywords are more useful when they're in your text. This is especially important if keywords include your local contact information - that text should be prevalent to be easily found by search engines.

You don't want to inadvertently hurt your SEO by using practices that aren't relevant to local searches. SEO best practices are always changing, and it's critical to stay on top of the latest news to keep track of updates and ensure your website is local search friendly.
