A recent study showed that those with mobile devices are more likely "active searchers" and are looking for specific things when they conduct searches, so it's critical for business owners to be in-tune with what mobile searchers are looking for.
The survey data shows that 40 percent of respondents conduct local searches on a daily basis, and those who have the most mobile devices do the most information hunting. Those who only use PCs perform an average of 5 local searches per week, while those with a PC and a smartphone complete 13.5. Consumers who use a tablet in addition to a PC and smartphone do the most local searching, with an average of 21 per week.
Even though people use mobile devices to conduct searches of all sorts, the data indicated that people most often look for information on entertainment, restaurants, retail stores and transportation. However, no matter what type of local search they're performing, people are often seeking the same information. The results showed that people conducting local searches are typically seeking listings, maps and directions, a business address or phone number or a company's hours of operation.
