Google Places: How to be seen in the 7-Box

Showing up on a Google search is a great way for a company to get noticed. According to the Ahwatukee Foothills News, 87 percent of a business's clients and prospects use the internet for research before making a buying decision, and showing up prominently and consistently on Google's Place Page is an ideal way to increase visibility.

The news source explains that in order to be listed in an area known as the "7-Box," - the sidebar featuring seven businesses on Google's Place Page - various steps must be taken. For example, Google rewards companies that utilize digital media on their webpages. Including approximately 10 pictures and five videos when registering a site at Google's Businesses Center will help improve its rank.

Other steps that should be taken include adding a phone number and address to the website, including the business' address on the footer of each page and on the contact page, adding the location to the site's title tag in its HTML code and gaining buzz on customer review sites.

In addition, the Queensland Times reports that for companies with a physical location, registering with Facebook Places is an effective way to track the people who are visiting a shop or venue.
