Businesses benefiting from local search optimization efforts should be interested to know that Facebook is making it easier for iOS users to utilize the local search option on Facebook. The tab used to be called "Nearby" but was recently changed to "Local Search." The switch has yet to take place on Facebook's Android app, however.
AllFacebook pointed out that the change may be to encourage search queries that coincide with the recent Facebook Search Graph addition to the social media platform, and is a way for mobile users to find out which of their friends liked or checked into local restaurants or landmarks. Facebook is hoping to create more clarity for users with the newly labeled local search option and may change, and hopefully increase, the use of mobile local search.
InsideFacebook listed business hours, company info and price range, check-in, Facebook profile and a direction option as a few of the ways users can now view company profiles from the local search button. This may very well become a Yelp competitor as Facebook has taken the next step to incorporate their Graph into an app for users on the go.
