Study: Six in 10 local businesses have Facebook pages

It's well known that social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter can be used to expand a business' fan base and increase its visibility.

A recent study conducted by market analysis company Palore revealed that 58 percent of small business owners surveyed have a Facebook presence, Search Engine Land reports.

More than 1,110 SMBs in Philadelphia and San Diego were polled for the study, the news source notes in a separate article.

These results prove that social media should be a large part of a business' advertising strategy, and should be used in addition to Google Place page marketing and local SEO efforts.

In order to improve a company's social media site, dynamic content such as links to helpful and relevant articles, tips based on personal expertise and questions that ask for opinions and engage users should all be implemented.

Furthermore, companies should be aware that Google+ is growing faster than Facebook and MySpace did during their early days, as 22 percent of U.S. adults are expected to have accounts by the end of the year.
