For businesses looking to boost their local search marketing rankings and effectiveness, a new partnership between social network Twitter and American Express could help.
The program will allow consumers to receive discounts directly to their American Express accounts for tweeting specific hashtags. Discounts are automatically credited to users' American Express bills after they have visited the credit card company's website to sync their card, the Associated Press reports.
So far the program features sixteen retailers, including Best Buy, Dell, McDonald's, Ticketmaster and Whole Foods Market. While the list is made up of predominantly large retailers, the program is still in its pilot stage and its applicability to other businesses remains unknown.
The program may sound complicated, but it's meant to streamline how consumers pair online discounts with in-store savings. "A customer can stay on Twitter to qualify for a deal rather than being re-directed to a merchant’s website, entering a promotion code and printing a coupon," the AP explains.
Previously, Twitter and American Express worked together to offer small businesses a way to manage their marketing campaigns and budgets on the network.
