Location-based marketing proves valuable

Businesses are becoming more aware of their local presence on the web and mobile devices. Certain services allow merchants to pinpoint a customer's exact location and reach them at point-of-sale, which makes becoming more visible to consumers on the web an opportunity to build loyalty.

The 2011 MerchantCircle Merchant Confidence Index Survey of 8,500 U.S. small-and medium-sized businesses revealed that location-based services are becoming more popular for marketing purposes, according to the company's website.

Local search marketing company RevLocal provides services that can increase the visibility of a company during a local search by offering an option to claim a listing with main local search engines.

Video is another aspect a business can add to its listing. RevLocal's enhanced video production services can provide high-quality images and recordings to give users a more accurate idea of the product or place they are searching for.

RevLocal's website notes that 82 percent of local searchers follow up offline via an in-store visit, phone call or purchase. The company's ability to provide authoritative data listings and stay current about search engine changes means businesses looking to increase their geo-targeted presence would benefit.
