BrightLocal recently surveyed roughly 1,400 local SEO experts and found that the most-requested services by clients are on-site SEO and Google Plus optimization. The requests for these services bypassed requests for other local search marketing tools like link building, PPC and website development. Approximately 80 percent of respondents said general search was very effective for garnering leads for their clients, while 60 percent of respondents found local search to be very effective for garnering leads or customers for their clients.
A December 2011 survey of 2,500 small-business owners from Merchant Circle/Reply.com found that small businesses preferred local search optimization to other forms of marketing. In this survey, 32.9 percent of respondents said that if they could use only one mode of marketing, they would choose local search optimization. Only 19.7 percent of small businesses said they would put all of their marketing budget into traditional media, while 16 percent said they would only use social media.
Although the December 2011 survey revealed that small businesses prefer local search marketing, this more recent survey by BrightLocal gives further insight into how local businesses prefer to use local SEO - a crucial addition to any marketing campaign.
