Want a new way to attract customers online and keep your followers engaged? Consider vlogging (video blogging)!

Vlogging jumped on the radar in 2000 but didn’t really become popular until 2005 after the launch of YouTube.

With the growth of vlogging over the years, many businesses have used this to their advantage and included it in their digital marketing strategy.

If you’re looking for a new avenue of marketing to spread awareness and be seen as an industry expert, vlogging may be right for you! Here are five reasons you should consider vlogging.

1. Video Is the Future

By 2022, it’s estimated that online videos will make up more than 82 percent of all consumer traffic on the internet.

Don’t let your business trail behind! Now is a great time to start introducing vlogging into your online strategy. Create an action plan for your vlogging schedule (weekly, monthly, etc.) and stick to it!

Consumer needs have changed over the years and video content is their preferred way to digest information. Vlogging and video content is already huge and will continue to grow as time progresses.

2. Vlogging Adds a Humanized Touch

We’ve talked before about how to humanize your marketing, and vlogging is another way to show consumers the true personality of your business!

While photos add a visual aspect, vlogging allows consumers to see AND hear you, which can ultimately help you quickly gain their trust.

Hearing a person’s tone is a valuable part of creating an experience that consumers will enjoy and will want to come back to.

3. Vlogging Is Simple

With the growth of smartphones, it doesn’t take a lot of time or effort to create a vlog! Simply pick up your phone and start recording.

If you’re new to vlogging, it may take you some time to figure out a cadence and what works for you (and that’s okay).

We all want our videos to be perfect, but don’t spend too much time recording. Mistakes can actually make you seem real. Remember, vlogs are supposed to be fun!

Keep in mind that you can also go live on Facebook! This is another opportunity to utilize video to reach your audience.

4. Vlogging Is Free

Vlogging is just one of the free ways to advertise your business! As mentioned above, the only thing you really need to start vlogging is a smartphone.

If your vlogging takes off and you want to create higher quality vlogs, you can purchase additional equipment, such as lighting and microphones, but it isn’t necessary to get started.

Dipping your toes in the water is the best way to determine if vlogging is right for your business. And because it’s free, you don’t need to worry about using your marketing dollars. If you end up hating vlogging, then there is no lost expense on your end.

5. Vlogs/Video Are Great for Search Engines

Because consumer needs have changed and visual content is highly searched for, search engines love video content! Consumers want to see how something is done instead of reading about it.

For example, if you are a plumbing business, you could post how-to videos on simple plumbing fixes, such as “How to Replace Your Toilet Handle” or “How to Unclog Your Sink.”

This type of video content is helpful to consumers who need this information, it shows you are an expert, starts to build a relationship with the viewer and helps search engines rank you higher in search results.

Final Thoughts

Creating video content and vlogs may seem scary if you’ve never tackled this type of marketing. However, don’t let this hold you back!
